ABOUT JEFF
Jeff Waldstreicher is a husband, father, and State Senator. He’s proud to serve as District 18's progressive voice in the Maryland General Assembly. Montgomery County's District 18 includes Silver Spring, Wheaton, Bethesda, Kensington, Chevy Chase, Rockville, Garrett Park and areas in between. Throughout his four years in the Senate, Senator Waldstreicher has championed causes that reflect our values. His top priorities include investing in our schools, cracking down on gun violence, protecting the environment, and fighting for social and racial justice.
Prior to serving in the Senate, Jeff's neighbors elected him to the House of Delegates three times. As Vice Chair of the powerful Judicial Proceedings Committee, he is a recognized leader on criminal justice reform, as well as a fierce champion for veterans and the developmentally disabled. In recent years he has championed economic justice, led on major gun control legislation, protected a woman’s right to choose, passed police reform, and stood up for our brothers and sisters in the labor movement.

Jeff is also a volunteer and active member of the community. He served on the Board of Directors of the Jewish Community Center of Greater Washington, the Montgomery Coalition for Adult English Literacy, and the Jewish Social Services Agency (JSSA). He also served as Chair of NARAL Pro-Choice Maryland, Chair of the NAACP's Legal Redress Committee, and Pro Bono Counsel to the Sierra Club.

As an attorney, Jeff has dedicated hundreds of hours to pro bono representation. He represented the NAACP in a suit to stop widespread discrimination during an annual gathering of African American motorcycle enthusiasts. He has also represented parents in complex adoption proceedings and victims of domestic violence.
Jeff received his B.A. in political science and history Phi Beta Kappa from Emory University. He received his law degree from the University of California at Berkeley School of Law, where he was an editor of the law review.

A lifelong resident of Montgomery County, Jeff grew up in the Layhill neighborhood of Silver Spring and attended Montgomery County public schools, graduating from Montgomery Blair High School. He lives with his wife, Joanna, and their three children (Kate, Eli, & Harry) in the Parkwood neighborhood of Kensington.
